Antique fireplace made of Savonnière stone

Large 19th Century antique countryside fireplace made of Savonnière stone (natural limestone quarried in the French Department of Meuse). This beautiful fireplace was initially used in a former post-relay which now no longer exists in the city of Saint-Dizier. This fireplace bears witness to the architectural style of the 19th century and to the work of former skilled handicraftsmen.

The simple monolithic lintel has a flat molding running along its lower edge and rests on two-molded console shaped jambs. The whole piece held up on monolithic base blocks. The wide rectangular shelf is nicely molded and tops the whole piece.

This slender fireplace is very elegant and will definitely outfit your living space no matter your decorating style.
