Louis XVI style antique mantle carved in a type of very hard stone

This beautiful Louis XVI style antique fireplace made of very hard stone, was meticulously carved by a skilled craftsman who did realize a harmonious and well-proportioned piece. 

The Louis XVI style is characterized by geometric lines but also by engravings inspired by Antiquity. The straight tapering jambs of this fireplace are animated with antique fluted column engravings topped by triglyphs. Those engravings are also on the ends of the straight and rectangular monolithic lintel. This last element is centered by a finely carved panel and has a flat molding running along its lower edge. A beautifully molded shelf ends the whole piece.
