Antique cast iron fireback for fireplace: Cupid

This beautiful antique cast iron chimney back depicts a beautiful scene: an elegant garland made of vine leaves and bunches of grapes that highlight Cupid.

Cupid, son of Venus and Mars, is the God of love (Greek equivalent Eros) in Roman mythology. He is depicted here as a mischievous child. He often has a pair of wings, and is armed with a bow and an arrow-case filled with arrows. Sometimes, we find him with a wreath of roses that symbolizes the pleasure.

This small square cast iron fireback comes from France and is in good condition.
