Louis XVI style antique fireplace

Beautiful Louis XVI fireplace made of gold-yellow calcareous “Pierre de Jaumont” stone quarried in the East part of France.

Louis XVI fireplaces are characterized by pure lines and geometric designs inspired by the Doric order. The tapering jambs look like Greek fluted columns and sit on protruding foot blocks. The monolithic lintel is flat and rectangular. It is animated with sculpted side rosettes just above the jambs and features a band of running pearl with a frieze molding of a rope style that flank a central carved panel. The breakfront shelf is finely molded.

This very beautiful antique fireplace has pure lines and delightful warm tones.
