Louis XVI style antique fireplace made of Dijon stone.

This beautiful Louis XVI style antique fireplace is made of Dijon stone (*). It features a geometric design and offers a superb warm-toned patina.

Its straight jambs are animated with finger-fluted details. They are topped by a monolithic lintel and its shelf. This lintel features beautiful sculpted finger-flutes and other geometric motifs very characteristic of this period.

This fireplace was unassembled in an antique mansion situated in the suburb of Dijon.

(*) The Dijon stone is a hard calcareous stone quarried in the west part of the city of Dijon. It contains iron sulfide that react with water and air producing yellow, ocher, brown or red tones.
