Louis XVI style antique fireplace with trumeau

Large Louis XVI style antique fireplace with trumeau made of very hard Savonniere stone (calcareous stone with warm tones quarried in Lorrain region).

The Louis XVI style fireplaces have very geometric lines and engravings inspired by the Doric order, the oldest and plainest of the orders of classical Greek architecture.

Straight fluted jambs sit on rectangular monolithic foot blocks. The monolithic lintel is animated with two sculpted side triglyphs just above the jambs and is centered by an inset panel with softened angles. The hood is topped by a finely molded breakfront cornice and is decorated with sculpted side columns that look like Doric columns.

This simple harmonious and well-proportioned fireplace with trumeau is characterized by the historical authenticity of its design and the outstanding quality of its craftsmanship and materials.
