Beautiful Pompadour style red marble mantle

Lovely antique 19th century - Pompadour style red marble mantelpiece beautifully veined with white.

The Pompadour style mantle is inspired by the sinuous lines of the Louis XV style. This mantle was made from the middle of the 19th century to furnish Parisian apartments. It is characterized by two main criteria: slightly curved lintel and shelf with movement, and a finely hand-carved circle framed by oblong moldings on the lintel. The jambs feature moldings on the outside giving an impression of depth to the whole piece.
