Wonderful Louis XVI style antique stone fireplace with trumeau

This wonderful Louis XVI style antique fireplace is made of Richemont stone (an ocher calcareous stone quarried in the city of Pons near Cognac).

This exceptional fireplace was unassembled in an old house owned by the nobility in the department of Vendée. This Louis XVI style fireplace has a wonderful patina. It is very representative of the fireplaces of Charente region.

This very finely sculpted fireplace bears witness to creativity carried out by stonecutters from the 18th century for the appropriateness of a new decorative repertoire.

This very beautiful handcrafted fireplace features a pair of straight jambs decorated with a finely sculpted rosette. The lintel is also very thin with a slight breakfront over the jambs. It is also well decorated with various floral and geometric sculptures very typical of the Louis XVI style.

The rectangular trumeau is wonderful and inspires prosperity and wealth with its wonderful carved ornaments: moldings, columns, foliage and floral engravings, lozenges, circles, palmettes, running pearls, symbol of the Tree of life … and a central inset breastplate.

A shallow cornice with drip edges wonderfully ends the whole piece.

Let’s imagine how much time, patience and skills this exceptional fireplace must have required!
