Louis XVI style fireplace with antique trumeau and floral moldings

Wonderful Louis XVI style antique fireplace with stone trumeau.

This fireplace has very characteristic features of the 18th century: straight jambs topped by a rectangular molded monolithic lintel, hand-carved corner blocks with well-executed flower decorated circular paterae and centered by a frieze carved with foliage. The thin breakfront shelf above the frieze is beautifully molded.

The upper part of this fireplace is called “trumeau” or “hood” and is carved with a decorative central conforming cartouche, curves and a beautiful floral molding. The molded breakfront cornice tops the whole piece.

A beautiful antique stone fireplace salvaged in an executive home in the city of La Rochelle. We unassembled and restored it in our workshops.
