Large antique cast iron fire-back depicting a Greek myth.

This big antique cast iron fire-back depicts a Greek myth: Hercules spinning at the feet of Omphale. The central theme is highlighted by foliage motifs.

Hercules dressed as a woman was sold by Mercury (god of commerce) as a slave to Omphale. Hercules and Omphale fell in love and had a son, the first Lydian king, founder of the dynasty of Heraclides.

This cast iron fire-back is 1 meter high by 1 meter long. It dates back to the 19th century and is sold as-is. It can be used as a decorative object or as a real fire-back in front of your hearth or your fireplace.
