Pompadour style antique mantle in black and white marble

This antique Pompadour style mantle was made by a craftsman in the middle of the 19th century in a beautiful marble with black and white veins which gives it singularity and originality.

The fireplace called "Pompadour" was at the time, a main piece in the furnishing of new Haussmann apartments.

It features a thin molded shelf with a nice movement that rests on a curved lintel. The lintel is beautifully decorated with a circle called "torus", itself enhanced by finely hand-sculpted oblong moldings. The canted jambs rest on plinths. They feature moldings on the outside giving an impression of depth to the whole piece. The central motif inscribed on the tablet can also be found on the jambs.
