The APSCFF, an association for the promotion and safeguarding of the antique wrought-iron bell towers, based in Orange (Provence), has recently honoured Alain Bidal in an article dedicated to the ancient campaniles and their preservation.
In Provence, "campaniles" are those pretty laces of wrought-iron that support the bells on top of the villages' clocks. Similar but different, simple but richly chiselled, the campaniles are remarkable works of art ! The campaniles stand against the strong forces of the "Mistral" and carry far away the regular sound of their bells protected by their beautiful metal cages.
So, look up to discover some of those little wonders!
Please feel free to visit the APSCFF (Association de Promotion et de Sauvegarde des Campaniles en Fer Forgé) website for more information on these beautiful wrought-iron bell towers that so nicely adorn our villages of Provence !
