Transition style stone fireplace from Dijon

This antique fireplace was made and carved out of Dijon stone (*). It belongs to two styles: The Louis XV geometric style with its flutes and its opulent "bolection" moulding on the top of the fireplace, and the Louis XIV style with this moulding appearing on the sides of the lintel. The tablet is finely moulded and the massive jambs are slightly curved.

This fireplace has a large hearth opening.

(*) The Dijon stone is a hard calcareous stone quarried in the west of Dijon containing iron sulphide that react with water and air producing yellow, ochre, brown or red tones
