Antique cast iron chimney back - 1666

This large and thick antique cast iron fire back for fireplace features a beautiful foundry work. Its rectangular frame is enhanced with a rounded upper part and highlighted by a very beautiful frame decorated with ornaments.

The fire back is centered by a coat of arms in relief. This coat of arms is very typical and represent the arms of a married woman with the arms of her husband on the right side (here, the coat of arms of the Bourbon-Condé family: 3 fleur-de-lis, baton gules) the arms of the wife appear on the left (here, the cross of Savoy). This blazon is topped by a ducal crown mounted with 8 florets. Behind the shield, 3 flags and 3 arrow piles with fleurs-de-lis finials intersect. This cast iron fire back from the 17th century is dated 1666 at the bottom.
