Reclaimed antique natural stone sink : Provencal pile
The natural stone that was hand cut to make this Provencal sink (called "pile" in Provence) is now magnified by a delicate natural patina. This large rectangular sink is shallow and has a small draining hole in its center. It has irregular edges worn out by time.
Essential elements of daily life on the farms of yesterday's Provence, these old stone sinks, also called "Provencal piles", were installed inside the kitchens. At the time, water was scarce and to save money, the dishes were not washed inside the sink but in a bucket. That's why the "Provencal piles" are not very deep.
This reclaimed stone sink could now find a second life installed in a summer kitchen or near a vegetable garden (ideal for rinsing gardening tools and freshly picked vegetables).
