Antique cast iron fireback: Arms of the Dauphin of France

This antique cast iron fireback representing the Arms of the Dauphin of France dates back to the 18th century. This French fireback is in perfect condition.

The Dauphin of France is the eldest son of the King of France, the presumptive heir of the crown. It bears the title of Dauphin since Humbert II, Dauphin of Viennois, sold his lands of the Dauphiné to the King of France in 1349.

Under a royal fleurdelisé crown, a quartered blazon: quarterly 1 and 4, three fleurs-de-lys (modern France) and quarterly 2 and 3, dolphin crested, barbed, finned, with scales and gills gules (For Dauphin of Viennois). Floral and vegetal motifs with a beautiful protruding molding with volutes end the whole piece.
