Louis XIV style antique breccia marble mantle

This superb antique mantle, dating from the 19th century, was carved and finely hand-sculpted into a beautiful and richly veined grey breccia marble with white, red and yellow.

In the Louis XIV style, this antique rounded mantle called "gueule de four arrondie" features a bolection molding surrounding and emphasizing the whole hearth opening. The depress-arched lintel is beautifully decorated with spandrels and thin moldings. A thin, molded shelf rests on it. The molded jambs are straight and rest on imposing foot blocks.
