Louis XIV style antique red marble mantle

This 19th century - Louis XIV style antique mantle is made of red marble from the North. The Louis XIV style is mainly characterized by an opulent molding called “bolection molding” that frames the whole hearth. This mantle with rounded corners was popular at the end of the 18th century, and became a classic in the 19th century. It has a thin, molded shelf and straight jambs resting on thick foot blocks.
