18th century antique fireplace with trumeau

18th century antique fireplace made of Savonniere stone. It was unassembled in a stone house situated in the small town of Commercy in Lorrain region.

This Louis XVI style fireplace features simple but geometric sloping and slanting jambs. Those jambs are topped by a monolithic lintel decorated with a flat molding running along its lower edge. The lintel is also animated with beautiful finely sculpted rosettes just above the jambs. The trumeau is quite simple and features a central embossed breastplate which can hold a painting. A beautiful finely molded cornice ends the whole piece.

This fireplace with trumeau is very simple. The Savonniere stone offers a beautiful slightly ocher natural patina. Let’s imagine it in a large room with a roaring fire!
