Napoleon III Burgundy stone fireplace

This wonderful Napoleon III (1808-1873) Burgundy hard stone fireplace is composed of tapering jambs with flutes and stop-flutes, which look like columns. Those jambs rest on thick Louis XVI style foot blocks. The entire upper part of this fireplace (the top of the jambs and the lintel) is animated with thin and beautiful sculptures made by hand. Those beautiful geometric engravings are perfectly symmetric. The fireplace kept its original shell which is one of the principal features of the Regency style. It features also geometric engravings inspired by the Louis XVI style.

The Napoleon III style is often composed of several previous decorative repertoires. We could call it a “copyist”.

The shelf is nicely molded and emphasizes the beautiful movement of the lintel.

This beautiful 19th century fireplace has a wonderful gray patina.
