This beautiful Pompadour style antique mantle is small. It was made in the 19th century and was carved in black marble. This beautiful marble is slightly mottled with white.
The Pompadour style is strongly inspired by the sinuous lines of the Louis XV style and is characterized by slightly curved lintel and tablet. It also features a circle flanked by oblong moldings on the center of the lintel. These motifs are finely hand-carved and can be found on the curved jambs. Made from 1860, this kind of mantle grew in popularity with the French bourgeoisie of the 19th century and began to furnish the Haussmannian apartments.
