Louis XIV style antique fireplace made of Jaumont stone.

This Louis XIV style antique fireplace was thoroughly sculpted and carved out of Jaumont stone (*)

It features a thin pair of slender console-shaped jambs. Those sculpted jambs are animated with vertical panels on their upper parts and are topped by a monolithic lintel. This molded lintel features also beautiful hand sculpted details: a central sculpted 6-pointed star surrounded by a thin circle and flanked by panels and fluted ornaments just above the jambs.

This elegant antique fireplace bears witness to the architectural style of the 17th century.

(*) Jaumont stone is a beautiful calcareous stone quarried in Moselle department near the city of Metz just above old iron mines. Its gold-yellow/ocher color comes from iron rust.
