Louis XIV limestone mantelpiece with trumeau and molded detailing
| This exceptional antique stone fireplace is a remarkable heritage piece that will create a striking focal point in any living or dining room. |
Hand-crafted from light-colored limestone, this Louis XIV fireplace dates from the period itself and embodies the style's harmonious proportions, graceful curves, and refined sculptural detailing.
Reclaimed from a bourgeois house in Bordeaux, it features a pair of slightly gently jambs adorned with elegant vertical fluting, resting on projecting cubic bases. The monolithic lintel is enriched with a finely carved stylized palmette at its center, while the flowing curves and counter-curves of the firebox opening are accentuated by a bold molded surround.
The upper section is a fine expression of the Louis XIV style (1661–1715) : richly detailed yet never ostentatious, perfectly symmetrical, and decorated with carved motifs inspired by Italian and classical antiquity. The overmantel (or trumeau) with its softly rounded corners, is animated by a central molded panel framed by two finely carved medallions at the top. The imposing overhanging cornice displays exceptional craftsmanship through its succession of fine moldings and rounded corners.
Its natural patina and the marks of time lend it an authentic, unique charm.
Its timeless elegance will complement classic, rustic, and contemporary interiors alike.
