This elegant antique stone fireplace was finely carved out of the beautiful Dijon stone (*).

This Louis XIV style fireplace features a wide and imposing monolithic lintel with shelf. This lintel sits on deep and imposing shapely jambs that rest on thick rectangular foot blocks. A bolection molding (typical feature of the Louis XIV style fireplaces) runs along the hearth line.

(*) The stone of Dijon contains marine sediments deposited during Jurassic period. It was carved out of quarries situated on slopes in the west part of the city of Dijon. This stone is a very hard calcareous stone containing iron sulfide that react with water and air producing yellow, ocher, brown or red tones).
